Local attractions
Doncaster Racecourse
Records of regular race meetings date from the 16th century, making this one of the oldest-established centres for horse-racing in Britain. The highlight of the year for Doncaster Races is the St Leger festival – the oldest of the five ‘classics’ in Britain. Directions
Walking from the train station, cross Trafford Way and head down West Laith Gate. Follow this onto St Sepulchre Gate; as you follow this down, it will become Baxter Gate. Head towards the market, following Baxter Gate, bearing right at the start of the market and following the shopfronts up to The Red Lion, which will be on your right.
